Hi Frnz....I had a query...

I am a B Tech first yr student

I am assigned to make a Science project...using the concepts of Physics and chemistry

I came upon an idea recently

Is it possible to build a Helicopter???

I dont have very high expectations

It will be unmaned and very small

Az small as possible...

I need some SERIOUS help Guys

Is this a VIABLE or a FEASIBLE Project???

This helicopter uses gyro stabilization on all 3 axis.  It uses four fixed pitch rotors in contra rotating pairs.  Pitch and yaw are controlled by tilting the rotors. Roll is controlled by differential thrust between the two pairs of rotors.  It is similar to a v22 osprey in helicopter mode, however we used fixed pitch rotors which means you must use different control mechanics. It is all electric using brushless motors.  Everything except the frame are off-the-shelf components, the frame was designed in solidworks and then laser cut from abs plastic. Also this helicopter is controlled using a six channel radio however it is possible to do it with 4.  

This project was pretty expensive around 1200 USD but since it was split between my brother and me it was only 600 each.  This is something you will want to thoroughly research  before you buy or make anything.  we researched and designed for over a year before buying anything.  We are both double majors in Physics and Mechanical Engineering so this endeavor is definitely not for the weak of heart, or for someone not willing to do some serious learning.  I truly believe you don't need a degree in physics or engineering to complete this project but if you want to even have a chance you must read, read, read, read and then when you are done reading, read some more. I can't stress this enough, read as much as you possibly can about this subject because chances are that any problem or question you come across, someone else has solved or asked it before.  Mistakes are expensive in this hobby so make sure you do your research!  I suggest spending a lot of time at rcgroups.com in the helicopter or vtol sections there is a lot of knowledge there and many people willing to help someone new in the hobby.

I don't see why not.  You should go to a hobby store and check out the R/C heli's.....They may give you some ideas that you could use for your model.
