Alright, I'm leaving my highschool, as of yesterday officially, and I need a new school to go to. I've been searching for a while and I have several sights but all are pretty expensive. That's my only problem really, I don't mind if they don't give out a diploma or aren't accredited, the college I want to go to just wants transcripts and GED. So, that being said, anybody know where I could find a cheap online school? Or atleast a good curriculum for my mom and I to go through? Do those cost money to? I'm a ninth grader and would really like some help with that in mind...no k-6 stuff plealse. Thanks! =)

  1. how about a k-12 program?  Of course k-6 would not work if you are in ninth grade but the k-12 program goes through 12th grade and is free.  It is structured but is nothing like "traditional school".

This is also a great time in your life to start focusing on things that really interest you.  You can do that while still following "traditional" guidelines.  For example say you are very interested in cars, you could then (for free) go to the library get a book on one type of car and write a report on it.  This incorporates, reading, writing, spelling, you could add history by learning how and why this car came into production, Math by figuring fuel mileage for this car at different speeds, different temps, air on or off etc.  Add science by researching alternative fuels for that car, alterative power sources etc.

I am the home schooling mom to 8 children and do it on a budget,  I have two starting the k-12 program in the next week and 3 of the others we school on a budget while 3 go to traditional schools.  Do not forget the internet, it is a great source of free materials, just type in the subject and free worksheets.

    Enjoy!

  2. It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a traditional homeschooling program, then you have already been given good answers.

However, more and more, there are students out there who do not identify with homeschooling, but it is actually what they are doing. There are now over 100 online high schools from which to choose and it seems like more are coming every day.

It is well worth the effort to check out the possibilities. You may want to take a look at your own state. Some states have free online charter schools. You can usually find a reference on your state's department of education website.

  3. Here is a relatively inexpensive program:

Also, on the Homeschool Buyer's Co-op they currently have a group buy for CyberEd science courses.  They have a lot of other great deals also:
