Question:

Home Owners Insurance...Question...?

I called and made a claim through my insurance company, it was Traveler's Insurance. (home insurance)

I said our "problem" was about 6 months ago and they said "after 14 days" they do not accept anything. Trust me, if I knew I could claim it, I would. I just didn't think it would be covered.

The problem was; our shower has a major crack in it and it is leaking all over the place. The walls have mold on it (we treat it with bleach)

They did not send me anything saying that they made this "change" (we could make a claim any time we wanted)

What now?

  1. There's no 14 day rule.  Did you call the company, or your agent?  Whoever it was, ask them to mail something to you in writing, saying they won't accept your claim.

Then file a complaint, including a copy of that letter, to your state insurance commissioner.

But they won't put that in writing.  They'll take the claim from you, instead.  BE SURE TO ASK THEM FOR A CLAIM NUMBER.

  2. The 14 day rule is something I have never heard of. If that was legit I could have denied hundreds of claims over the years.

I certainly would contact the company again.

You need to know that you may run across some problems with this claim. The policy is going to cover "sudden and accidental" damages. If this has been an ongoing problem for weeks or months, you likely won't get it covered. However, it doesn't hurt to report it anyway and see what happens.

    Good Luck
