I am in the 10th grade and I want to get home schooled and I was wondering does your parent have to be the only one that can teach you or can you hire somebody to teach you because my mom didn't even finish high school so I know she won't be able to do it.

So can somebody please help me out on what to do?

  1. It really depends on where you are and your situation. If your mom can't then you can usually find someone who will teach you. It could be family, friends or a qualified teacher.

  2. Each state has laws about the requirements of homeschool, and how many non-related students can be homeschooled.

If your mom can't "teach," you might look into Abeka.com, a Christian curriculum that offers dvd lessons. You would watch the dvd of the lesson, as if you were sitting in that classroom.

  3. It seems that our home school association could let one parent be an expert teacher, especially when it came to algebra. I think they did this by running their home school association through a local church.

You really need to look up home school regulations for your state. Some states are more lenient than others. However, just because your mom did not finish high school does not mean she cannot run a home school.

  4. Your mother will not need to "teach" you as much as facilitate your learning.  She most likely could do it herself, but yes, you can find others to help with your lessons.

At your age, you can take higher level math and science courses (as well as other subjects) at the local community college for dual credit.  If you join a homeschool support group, they usually offer coop type classes where parents with expertise in an area teach to other homeschoolers-for instance, someone fluent in Spanish might teach a class.

There are options available to you such as DVD courses where there is a "teacher" actually doing the lessons, they are just on tape and you follow along in your books.  Some of these programs have a "real" teacher you can call on if you have questions, as well.

The term homeschooled is a misnomer, actually.  Education and schooling are not one and the same, and home "schooling" is nothing like the public school.  Your goal is an education, not schooling-and you can have one without the other.

    I wish you the best!

  5. Depending on your high school that your getting home schooled from.  It does say your parent and some you can get someone else as long as they have their high school diploma or a GED.   Yet when I was home schooled I read my books and answered my tests sent them in to be graded (impossible to cheat) and they sent them back graded and when I finished my course I received a certification of that credit.  I basically taught myself and when I asked a question my mother always said look it up.  in essence If you study really hard and get in the right home schooling program you really don't need a teacher but yourself.

  6. you can hire a tutor but it's gonna cost a bit!

you could phone ur local education centure for more info.

    hope this helped good luck.

  7. As someone else said you're old enough to be in charge of your own learning and don't need anyone to teach you. There are online schools or you can just make up your own curriculum and learn what you want. The idea that someone 'teaching' you has anything to do with learning is a myth perpetuated by the school system.

  8. With Anchor Academy you get teachers that you talk to on the phone and on Skype, but its kind of a christian school.
