  1. I can't think of any advantages of home schooling.  The disadvantages would be that he won't have much of a social life.   Also it would probably be harder for him in real life because he is not getting the proper education from a degreed teacher.  That is my opinion of home schooling.

  2. It would depend on what type of homeschooling you would be doing. If you are not going to homeschool with his current high school(school at home) then the only disadvantage there would be is not having some high school courses transfer to college. This can be avoided depending on which college he goes to and how well you keep records. I was homeschooled through high school and currently have a 3.9 college GPA. Sometimes I wish I had AP classes, but there is no guarantee I would have had those if I had stayed in public school.

  3. As long as you are willing to step up to the challenge and make certain that he gets social interaction you should have no problem.

The socialization issue is a myth perpetrated by the public school system in an attempt to stem the tide of funding loss. Every student who leaves a public school costs them $2,000-$7,000, that's a pretty big incentive to spread rumors.

  4. I have been homeschooling for most of my life

compared to a lot of public schools home schooling is the best thing that could have happened to me.

there are also support groups around the area in which can help.

Another option you do have being a home school family is if there is a subject you as a teacher do not under stand there are co-ops all around.

One other option is to go to a community collage for part of your sons schooling  this is a great option for home scholars because it helps with a degree towards collage. personally as a high school Senior this is a great option

m r  that is not true there are hundreds of home school families in support groups.

  5. Not a fan of it here. It isn't compatible with our culture as a whole, and you could run into a host of problems.

  6. Here is some information on the pros and cons. You can also find information about statistics, methods, laws, etc. on this site.

  7. home school is badd

  8. Like anything else, the strengths and weaknesses vary with the family, the location and the student in question. Thankfully, as you spot a problem, you can deal with it quickly. HS does require dedication, responsibility, creativity and a certain amount of time. It is also rewarding and fun. The antisocial aspect is only true if you let it be. Every community has opportunities for an active social life at any age. You may have to look to find them, but they're there.

  9. First I would like to say it is a good thing you're thinking rather than leaping into it.  If you are truly motivated, then it is a good idea, however it can be taxing on any parent so be warned.  Here are only a couple in each, yet I would suggest searching the web and read up.

    Advantages:

    *  Ability to learn at his/her own pace, and exceed grade standards w/o being held back

    *  Ability to work on weak area's in their education to become stronger and better at it

    Disadvantages:

    *  Less socialization with peers he/she may have grown up with through the years in public school

    *  Can be very challenging on both parent and child if the motivation and bond is not there from beginning

The advantages do outweigh the disadvantages.  You can for instance get in a charter home school, and most have co-ops set up to allow your child for socialization and field trips.  You do that and you would also get funding for your child to take say band class or dance (whichever is he/she's preference).

  10. you can teach what you want at a pace you want.

the bad thing is no social involvement.
