Home Schooling -- Connections acadmy or Clackamas Web Academy?

Hello:

We are planning on homeschooling our nine-year old son. Has anyone had experience with Connections Academy http://www.connectionsacademy.com/ or Clackamas Web Academy that can share some insight?

What program do you use? Are you satisfied with the program?

My kids are in Connections Academy and have been for 6 years.  Connections Academy schools are about more than just the curriculum, they are really great public schools.  Because a virtual public charter school is more than just getting a box of curriculum, you want to make sure that the school will help you make sure your child is grasping the content of the lessons. Work with the teachers to modify lessons to the needs of your child.  The curriculum that they use is really great.  In 4th grade they use quite a bit of the Scott Foresman curriculum, but that is just part of the curriculum they also use BrainPop, Discovery Education and much much more(http://bit.ly/7e3YSm). There are also different elective courses that you can pick from and clubs that kids can participate in.  Develop a relationship with the teacher to make sure that they know your child and can help them advance at a pace that fits their needs.  http://bit.ly/7HjZFe

Oregon Connections Academy really makes sure that you get the help you need so that your child does the best they can.  Need proof?  Oregon Connections Academy earned the rating of "Outstanding" the highest possible on their 2008–09 School Report Card from Oregon Department of Education.  Their student's test scores were higher states average test scores and all other statewide virtual schools. http://www.ode.state.or.us/data/reportcard/RCpdfs/10/10-DetailSheet-4399.pdf

I'm glad that we have the options that we do.  Everyone has a unique perspective on why they may use a virtual school and what they get out of it.  For us, Connections Academy has been outstanding.
