Question:

Home Schooling Material?

My sister is home schooling her 9 yr old next year. They are looking for Christian material. She believes they are going with Saxon Math 4. Does anyone know where you can buy used materials online or cheap materials at a local store? I told her that she could possibly find a used website that she can get the books for and just buy the workbooks separate. Any help would be great. Thanks.

  1. www.pennywiselearning.com

A Convention might be the best thing for her since she is new and planning to start next year. Contact a home school group in your area to find out when and where. It's that time of the year when they start them.

  2. Try this website- great selection!

    Hope that helps!

  5. Besides Rainbow Resource Center and Timberdoodle, she should also try these sites:

    Christian Book Distributors:

    http://www.cbd.com

    Library and Educational Services:

    http://www.libraryanded.com

Paperback Swap (much more than just paperbacks):

    Homeschool Buy:

    Homeschool Buyers Co-op:

Also, if she connects with her local/regional HS support group, they may have used curricula sales and/or a Yahoo Group for swapping curriculum.

I also agree she should attend a HS convention for some great deals also.  Many curricula companies have special offers and/or free shipping.  You can also *see* and *feel* the materials (very important to me).  There's usually freebies and give aways, too!

    HTH!

  6. I'm homeschooled and I use abeka. I did a ebay search for abeka books and put the link below.

  7. http://rainbowresource.com/index.php

    http://timberdoodle.com/

Both of these companies are family-run by homeschoolers and offer tons of materials at a discount.

I would also highly suggest she attend the homeschool convention in her area, it's probably coming up within the next 4-10 weeks.  At convention, she will have access to hundreds of curriculum publishers at convention-only discounts.  She'll also be able to compare different publishers' materials in person, so she can make sure she's getting what will work best for her daughter.
