Hi, have been thinking about home schooling and I was wondering what everyones daily schedules are like, how many hours of school, what subjects when, Bedtimes, breaks and activities or anything else you can think of.

Thanx :)

  1. Wake up - 8:30

    Breakfast and chores - 9

    School - 10

    Break and reading - 11:30

    Lunch - 12 noon

    break till 1

    1 - 2 : 30 school

Free play till 5:30 the dinner

Free time till bedtime ant 10:00

Basic schedule but we are VERY flexible!

  2. I just recently asked a similar question of my homeschool friends.  I found the best answer on a website where she actually includes a sample schedule and details of how they use it.

In summary, the more seasoned homeschoolers say the same thing that this article says, a schedule is just a blueprint to work from.  It can be held to loosely so that you can have needed flexibility for the unexpected things of life.

I included my source below, along with the website address for this article.

  3. Some states require that you home school for a specific amount of time each day for a required amount of days per year.  For example: South Carolina requires a 180 day school year (the same as public school) and a minimum of 4 1/2 hours a day. Check your state law to see what requirements they have and HOW your are allowed to home school.  For example: South Carolina requires you home school either, through the state home school program, the local school district or a home school organization that has a minimum of 50 members. The parent acting as primary teacher must also have at least a high school diploma (of which a copy will have to be provided).

Homeschooling works differently for every family...but I am amazed at the responses such as: In the afternoon the children finish what they didn't want to do in the morning"..WHAT!? It seems like some of these are forgetting who is the parent and who is the child.  Remember homeschooling or not, this education is the only shot your child(ren) will get before (hopefully) college.

  4. We're unschoolers** so describing our daily schedule is easy: we don't have one.

(** aka natural learners, child-led learners, self-directed learners or auto-didactic learners)

Instead we 'do our own thing' and 'make it up as we go along', *grin*.

In our family, we don't distinguish between 'learning' and 'life' so we don't keep a separate 'learning' schedule, separate school times, compartmentalise our learning into 'subjects' or do pretty much anything else that hails from the artificial, contrived world of 'school'.

For my siblings and I, learning happens in the same way as we -- and virtually everyone else on the planet -- learnt such skills as walking and talking, i.e. naturally, with parental encouragement, without any external compulsion and in our own time.

  5. Ok we use AOP(lifepacs) Horizons, and different things for history and science...However this is our schedule...

Everyday we do Language, Math, Spelling and Reading.

Mon,Wed, Thurs. We do History and Science and creative writing

Tues and Thursday we do arts and fun things(Tues we meet with our HS group and have music, art, PE and lunch)

As far as our hour by hour we don't have a set thing

We start our day between 8:30 and 9:00-hint don't turn the TV or computer on-it ruins the mood for the morning-we tried this and it helped things go so much smoother in the mornings

we always do spelling first, then language and then it doesn't really matter, our children know that they have to complete 2 lessons a day in Language and Math.

We take a small break at 10:30 for about 15 minutes and then lunch at 12:00-they help fix lunch and then the 2 smallest lay down for there nap and Kyle(oldest) stays up and finishes his lessons with me. Gives us both some quite time as well as there nap gives them what they need.

We normally do 4 hours of school and that's all. We play like every other family in the evening and my smallest go to bed at 8:30 and my oldest gets 30 extra minutes he goes at 9:00.

I hope that helps you out.

  6. Our schedule is very flexible. For the most part, the kids get up between 8 and 9am. After breakfast and morning chores, we start working around 10 and are always done by 2pm. In that time we take 2 ten minute breaks and one lunch break.

We do Math, Science, History, Reading, and spelling everyday. We do English, Geography, and Health when they are Incorporated into the other lessons. We have gym day on Thursday (bowling, dance, baseball). Saturdays are make up days and Art.

Our evenings are pretty much the same as most. Kids play until around 7, do evening chores, finish any lesson or project they didn't want to do in the morning. Have supper and in bed by 10pm.
