This question is for those who were actually home schooled, not for people that have not experienced it.

I am considering home schooling my children and I'm wondering what different people's experiences are.

How did you recieve your diploma? Did you go to college? How are you socially?

  1. I am home schooling my older 2. Yes they can receive a diploma. It depends on what curriculum that you use but if you use a charter school a lot of times they will issue it or you can issue it your self when they graduate. A lot of home schoolers go to college in fact some colleges look for home schoolers! As for socially there are so many things for the kids to be involved in that its almost overwhelming. They are usually more mature and get along with adult better than public schooled kids because they are used to interacting with them on a day to day basis.

  2. Hi,

I'm going to be graduating this year though a home schools program, they do have the graduation thingy like other schools do and my degree will be mailed to me. I'm looking at colleges right now my bother is 20 and he like me was home schooled he's going to a college right now, had no trouble getting in. Socially I'm good, I have lots of friends go out when I want to. Homeschooling is a good family thing, because you help out each other.

  3. I know a couple of teens who complete their high school through an online public school program, so yes, they received their diploma. I know a couple of teens who are doing their work at home to receive a provincial diploma. I know online parents from the US who were legally allowed to provide their children with diplomas--the parents followed similar criteria in terms of courses and credits to create graduation requirements and had their kids do the work to earn those credits. I know one girl who did not get her diploma; instead, she went straight to a college that accepted homeschooled students based on her student portfolio, then she transfered to the university the year after.

I have yet to meet a teen who was homeschooled for sometime be socially awkward. To be honest, those who seem to have the toughest time socially from those I've met are the students who had previously been in public school for several years.

  4. i have been im homeschooling my whole life i have never been to public school . it is kinda like doing home work. i like it very much the schedule is grate and i dont have the pressures of other teens my age . me and my sister are wonderful around people . and depending on the homeschooling  program you to though  determines  how you get your diploma the school i go to they have a graduation  but only for high school not 6th and 9th but other school do it by mail  and we dont have picture day but you can do it on your own like we did . also we had to take all of are yearly test at a school so we still were able to be around other kids . also you can do independent studies and go to the school one or twice a week and that is very good as well . i hope this helped you out. homeschooling is the best way to go now a day things are sooooooo crazy out there for young ones

p.s. i do plan on attending college when i get out of school

  5. while I have not graduated yet my older brother has,so is it ok if I answer these questions as I am knowledgeable in this area?

He recieved his diploma in a graduation ceremony with a local homeschool support group,it is accepted in our state as an equivilent to a public school diploma.

    Yes,he is in college right now,with a full-ride scholarship.

He is doing just fine socially, homeschooling only takes away from your social skills if the parents allow it to,mom doesn't allow it to.

  6. I am 16 years old and a Jr in High School and have been in home schooling for a few years now. I was doing poorly in my schoolwork and was extremely distracted in school for various different reasons. I decided to try out home school and I enjoy it very much and I have many opportunities that I never had in a "regular" school. I am able and do take extremely advanced classes and go at my own pace. I am already taking college courses early and plan on going to a 4+ year college in 2 years.  I have taken art courses and psychology courses and more, I have more advantages in home school than I would have in a "regular" high school.

We still take the yearly SAT's or CAT's or whatever they call them and we still have to take the CAHSEE(california highschool exit exam) and all that any regular school would have to do. (other states other exams... ect)

In my school, we graduate, and we even "walk" at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California (where I live).

We also get our diplomas as well. They send them through the mail or you go and pick them up from the home school base.

In My home school we also have proms and trips and such.  I get straight A's as well. :D

I suggest that you keep your child sociable if you plan on homeschooling from an early age, I have friends and family and friends over the Internet as well.

In conclusion, Iv only had great experiences and I encourage you to home school if you think that would be best for your child and family. Make sure the school is lagit though and I encourage you to ask many many questions.

  7. Hello,

I'm a freshman and have been home schooled since 3rd grade.

I extremely hate it when people say

"Well you're children(meaning my sisters and me) are not getting enough social activity"

But truly we have always been involved with sports, youth groups, Church functions, piano lessons, parties.

I belong to a Christian co-op every Tuesday and have endless friends!

    I take

Biology, Spanish II, Western Civilization, World Literature, and an Art class.

Then I do math, music, gym and such at home and the homework that my teachers from the co-op classes have given me. And the classes are for grades 9-12 so the courses are rather hard!

    haha

but still I would highly commend you home school as long as you know your children will have a good social life as well.

Everyday my mom says how happy she is that she started homeschooling.

We usually don't take off days for things like snow days, teacher conferences, and so on.

So therefor we end school earlier than public school!

And we can go on vacations and not have to worry about loads of homework to catch up on!

So my opinion: Do home school!

    Hope I helped =)
