  1. i just brought a 800w 6.1 lg surround sound system and it is kick *** . just got for what has the best sound. remember the more speakers the better the sound. And Harvey Norman ( i live in Australia) are now doing 45 months interest free so you have 45 months to pay it off so just go and get the best

that's what i did, just got a new 60 inch HD plasma (lg) and its great

  2. well if your going to choose from the two i would go with onkyo but if you want to consider more options i would look into harmon kardon. also sony is a good choice, however, sony is usually very pricey. definatly go with the harmon kardon tho i have helped install several of these systems and every one of the customers has loved them.

  3. SONY IS THE BEST,

  4. If money is no object check out Marantz, NAD , Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer Elite. You need to listen to the ones you are considering. Each receiver sounds different with speakers. Thats if you used the same speakers to listen to each receiver. All speakers sound different also. Dont let the salesman crank the speakers. Referance level is 70db. for a movie. That is loud enough. Take your time and get a good HT shop that will help you. Mine would have set up my NAD T775 up for me for free. I still have 2 times that they will come out if for free if any problems. Ask alot of questions.

  5. Both Denon and Onkyo are respected brands so you will be getting decent quality.

If it was me, I would get the Onkyo TXSR-705 receiver for about $560. It has a LOT of features that rival other units for double the price.  It has won a few Editors Choice awards and "Gear of the Year" awards.

Then I would get a set of monitor style speakers from Klipsch, Polk, Definitive Technology, etc Or whatever speaker set from a SPEAKER company you find sounds good.

For a DVD player - get a Sony PS3. It plays standard def DVD's, BluRay and games. It's actually cheaper than many stand-alone BluRay players, yet produces great video quality.
