Home Theatre Audio?

I just purchased 53 inch sony V300. I am not a total idiot so I know how to hook up all the video stuff. But I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to audio. I am planning to buy a Sony 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker system, which I saved $500 on because my brother bought 3 Tv's for his restaurant. Anyway, the system comes with it's own reciver/5-disc changer so how would I make so the sound from the speakers is not just from it's own DVD player but my HD cable box and Ps3 aswell. Would I need Coaxial or Fiber Optic cables to hook the cable box to the reciever or is there anyway I can make it so my speakers play anything coming from my tv.

  1. If your hd cable box and dvd player have hdmi I would feed those to the tv, as well as the sony combo system. Then you connect either a fiber optic or coaxial digital cable back to the stereo so whatever source is on the tv is being fed to the stereo system. If any of your components don't have hdmi, send their audio signal by best source (fiber/coax or rca) to the tv. The key here is sending the tv audio signal back to the sony stereo. I have this setup in my house and whether I'm watching tv/dvd/stereo or over-the-air my stereo source stays the same as the tv is the one supplying the signal to the stereo receiver.
