would go well with this receiver:

i have already bought the speakers and a friend of mine is trying to sell the receiver...the reason i ask because i know this receiver is more for a surround sound system. I have seen the receiver being used with a couple speakers before but wanted to know what the ideal receiver would be for these speakers thanks

  1. According to the eBay listing, those are "$750" speakers for $75 ......

If a deal sounds too good to be true - it is.

There are a lot of 'white van scam' speaker and receiver systems floating around and these "Acoustic Audio Professional" speakers are likely from one of these sets.

While that sony receiver is a lower-end, you should not waste your time trying to do any kind of audiophile matching to those dime-store/scam speakers.

Most good electronics (Sony, Yamaha, Dennon) mate well with any decent, brand-name speaker set.

  2. look into DENON when considering receivers! they have several to meet your needs! and an excellent service record.. i repair electronics.. and would steer clear of Sony.. no headroom!!

  3. I would use a 2 channel amp with a lot more watts than 100 per channel like that sony. You would want at least 500 watts per speaker and upto 1,000

  4. You say you bought the speakers. That's plural, 2 speakers.

You're asking for trouble here. The max per channel is 100 watts. The speakers at 1,000 watts will sound great until you blow up that puny amp. What is the turnover on each speaker? (How much power will each one draw, per channel, when you turn on the system?)

You have to match your amp and speaker capacity, or be extremely careful. That means to match 2 of these speakers requires 2,000 watts, a rather expensive amp.  You can get off buying a much smaller amp but you have to always be careful not to try to open it up. The reason this will work is that you probably live in a place that would NEVER allow you to turn these things up to capacity.

As long as the baby, or some moron friend, doesn't go turning k***s without your knowledge you'll probably be alright. But NOT with only 100 watts per channel.

Oh yeah, those aren't home speakers. They're STUDIO MONITORS. Like we use in the recording studio. The kind that will let you hear a pin drop. What you really wanted for max home sound would have been some 3-way, air suspension, solid wood case, 15in. woofers. The best ones run up to 500 watts. Even the 200 watt models would work with the amp you have in mind.
