Question:

Home audio subwoofer box leaking?

When i watch movies at very loud volumes, during the parts that are low or loud(eg. a typical explosion) i can hear air escaping or leaking out of my box. it's a 12" sub and shakes the house. As an audiophile, this minor problem makes my set-up a step back from perfection. I want to know what I should use to seal my box without having to open it.(being that there aren't any screws to take the box apart. and opening it would result in the destruction of my current box). It is the most annoying noise and can ruin some of the most cinematic parts of a movie.

  1. Can you get to the screws that hold the speaker in place?  If so, then you can temporarily remove the speaker and use the hole for the speaker to get to the seams to seal them.  I am assuming the box is make of wood so use a good wood glue on the seams.

  2. As far as I know you can't seal it without opening it ... If you are that desperate, try transparent silicone, but it will probably look messy :-(

If you know where the cracks are and they are small, use an injection needle filled with superglue, let dry, repeat if necessary ... (a friend just gave me this tip, as he did this with his speakers) He also said to practise on something else first, as it is not easy and dries very fast and can block the needle.

    Hope it will work ...

EDIT: when I said cracks, I actually meant the seams...

  3. Contact the manufacturer that seems defective, any good sub woofer you buy the company will help tremendously. If you have a cheap sub you are on your own. From the description I'd guess you have a poor quality speaker and it is showing.
