My son was born a month premature and had 2 spend 13 days in the hospital.. IT WAS h**l. the nurses were awful, never could talk to a docter, know one would tel me ANYTHING! now DH and I are TTC#2 and im wondering.. If u ahve one preemie do u have a higher chance of having a second one? and do u think it would be high risk/a bad idea to use a midwife and have a home birth with #2?? Any suggestions would help.. any personal experiences?

  1. My first son was 6 weeks early and went through h**l with the hospital too. My second son was 2 weeks early and that went ok. I would really talk over you concerns with your DR and if you are still not satisfied with the answers you should go to another Hospital if your INS will allow you. I think the home thing is cool but not with the history of your first birth. Sorry. You really don't have a higher risk. The odds of you having another preemie actually lessen.

  2. I think you are considered higher risk if you have previously had pre-term labor. It might not be a good idea considering if you deliver pre term at home the baby won't have the help it most likely will need from being born premature. I would just get a different doctor.

  3. My advice:

Don't do a home birth. Just go to a different hospital.

  4. If you want a home birth, find a midwife that also practices with an OB/GYN. Midwifes will not deliver a preemie...period. You can plan on the home birth delivery, but if the baby comes early you will have to deliver at a hospital with and OB/GYN.

  5. so long as you have a good pregnancy and the baby and you are fine there is no reason that you couldnt have a sucsessful home birth. some studies show that home births are shorter and a lot less traumatic for the mother and baby. i think it is a great idea to have a home birth, my friend is due to have one any day and she can call all the shots about how she wants it to happen without having a dozen different people trying to poke and prod her in the hospital.
