Home birthing Mamma's... birth plan?

In case of the rare event of a transfer, did you have a birth plan prepared in advance for your wishes?

I have been thinking about, in such an event, having my wishes followed, especially for baby(no pacifier, no HepB, no eye goop, no vit K unless needed, etc). And did you present the birth plan to your, if you had one, back-up OB, or just have it on hand.

  1. I had a very basic birth plan for the event of transfer.  It included the hospital we wanted to transfer to, our insurance information, and some basic don'ts- no circumcision, no HepB shot, no eye goop.  I wanted to breastfeed as soon as possible after the birth. I wanted our midwife to stay with us in a doula role.  And no bath for baby- ditto on it cutting down on unnecessary handling.

I assumed that if we transferring that we needed the technology that the hospital has, so I didn't try to include any preferences in that department.

But I've had two homebirths, and no transfers, so I'm no expert on that part!

  2. I made one up just in case, thankfully we never had to use it. I did not have a back up OB. Write one up and have your midwife look ot over first, she should have some tips as she knows what it is like to have a home birth transfer-hospitals often don't appreciate such patients.

On thing our midwife told us to do was put "no bath for baby" as it really discourages people from unnecessarily handling your baby.

    Happy Pushing!!
