Home made wine, how do you calculate the alcohol level?

i now how to make it just not figure the alcohol level.

  1. Yep, You need a hydrometer. You would note the specific gravity or brix prior to fermentation.  Then, after fermentation use the hydrometer to calculate the specific gravity.  Using the difference in the readings, before and after, you would be able to calculate the alcohol content.

    Edit: that's not true.  16.5% is where the yeast dies.

  3. You don't.  You cannot get wine more than twelve percent alcohol,the yeast will die. I have made homemade wine alot! sorry..good luck!!
