  1. O.K.  First of all, any home training or self-taught training is called 'Autodidactic', and being self-trained in anything: math, language, chemistry, or martial arts, has always been limiting.  There are certain tricks of the trade that you can only learn from an expert.

You really are better off learning the martial arts in a group, and in a group that really knows what they are doing.  Search around and find a decent dojo/dojang/kwoon and learn from an expert first, and then work on it at home.

Here is an example of a home school, correspondence style, martial arts 'WING CHUN' course:

The expert instructor offering this home school course did not learn Wing Chun at home, he learned it in a kwoon from an expert over many many years of bust butt training.

Look how much this guy is charging for video tapes, books, and various installments.  Look at what he is offering.  Now do you think you will get the full Wing Chun kung fu experience at home from this correspondence material?

You might get something out of all the training videos out there on dozens of interesting styles of fighting, but you should first get your basics and fundamentals down pat in a martial arts school.
