A friend of mine has in his house a home network consisting of three pc's all running XP SP 2. It has a wi fi setup.

Two of the machines will run the internet but the third wont connect. The green progress bar across the bottom begins, gets to one block then dies and the screen says this page cannot be displayted etc.

This is all the information I have am afraid but any help would be very useful

Many thanks

  2. Post more details regarding whether the trouble computer is attempting to connect via a ethernet cable or wireless.  We need a starting point here.

  3. I suspect the pc that does not connect to the internet actually does not connect to the LAN.  Check the wireless configuration and make sure all security issues are addressed.  If you have invoked MAC validation (you should), make sure the MAC address of this pc is in the router's validation table.  Make sure the preshare key (if you invoked WPA encryption) is properly installed as well.

If all of these are proper, ping the default gateway using command prompt to see if there is a link between pc and router as this will further identify the cause.  Write with a new request if you have a problem w. this.
