Question:

Home phone calling 911 by itself?

We have Comcast (which we hate, by the way), and our landline phone has been calling people randomly. Its almost like our line is crossing with someone elses and showing our number as the caller without us making the call. The worst part is that we had an officer come to our house last night at 3:30am saying our phone had called 911, we never called 911! Comcast is absolutely useless, no one knows what is wrong and they have been out here multiple times, and have no idea how to fix it. Our phone rings throughout the night, and when we answer it, it is as though we had called someone. This tends to happen when it is storming outside, but that shouldnt matter! This is ridiculous! Any helpful information is welcomed!

  1. maybe the phone is broke. i take it you have the button saver options. i would get rid of that phone and try another phone and see whats going on. im sure comcast didnt do anything its the phone.

  2. The same thing happened to us and we don't have comcast. We were calling out but just getting a ringback. I would call a friend and get my own voicemail and it would show her a different number than mine on her ID.  When someone called me, it would ring like I called them.

Our phone company finally came out (after 3 previous visits) and rewire the entire line from the pole to the house. We haven't had a problem since.

You might want to call the federal utilities commission and see if there is anything you can do to get it corrected. You may have to call the actual phone company for your area.(usually comcast is a 3rd party for the bundled services, they run the promotion, but is not actually responsible for the line)

    Good Luck!

  3. you need to check with your neighbors and if you have anything wireless in house..this happen with us.

We didnt have jacks in all rooms so we purchased the wireless ones for 100 bucks each few yrs back and it would do weird things like that.Plus it would be like party line pick up on other peoples lines..

so you need to see what neighbors and yourself have wireless..
