Hey guys, I am about to set up a home recording studio for my country/southern rock music. I am going to be recording in 24- bit.. What would be a good amount of memory to have for this? ATM I have 52 gigs available.

  1. 52 gig should get you started, but soon you will want more. Since you are not yet a pro, 52 will most likely do it.

    Good Luck

  2. Your question makes no sense.

First, 52 gigs of memory?  That doesn't seem right.  What computer allows you to have 52 gigs of RAM?  Do you mean 52 gigs of space on your hard drive?  If so, then you do not have enough space to record an album at 24 bit?  You didn't, though, tell us at what sample rate.  That will make even more of a difference.

You also said "set up a home recording studio".  Does this mean that the rooms have yet to be designed?  What system do you have in place to do this?

Even the most basic of basic home setups will set you back at least $20,000.  For that price, you could go to a really nice recording facility and have your album professionally done.

Probably more than 1/2 of my clients are people that attempted to do this kind of thing on their own and then realized that recording is actually a full time profession and that they were way way way way in too deep.

Ya know, I could spend 100,000 in auto repair equipment and I would be ready to troubleshoot that oxygen sensor or fix some other problem but I'm not a mechanic, my car only breaks down once a year or so and, in the end, it is just cheaper, faster and smarter to take my car to a mechanic.

If you do not know the difference between storage and RAM then you are in no way ready for digital recording

    Good luck
