She's 5. I won't give her a laxitive or anything simular...the last time cost us a mattress :( She hates prunes and apple juice just cramps her up. I have chugging water and staying away from dairy. Can anyone add to that?

  1. My husband said that bananas with milk help move everything.

    Lots of water

    Lots of fruit

Try massaging her tummy, like someone else here said.

You can also ask your doctor if she can take Benefibre. It comes in powder form that can put into any drink (it's clear and no taste) and also comes in chewable orange tablets, kind of like Vitamin C. I don't know if they're suitable for her age, so you'd have to ask.

Things like yogurt can also help too.

Fibre like Raisin Bran or Special K (if she will eat it) help a lot too.

    Good luck, I know how it's like...I have IBS-C :)

  2. The only "home remedy" I know is the one which has been practised in my family for generations - the soapstick suppository.  Hold off from this unless she's in pain and/or hasn't "done" for 3 or 4 days.  If that's the case - cut off a sliver of worn down ivory or glycerine soap, put plenty of vaseline on (and in) her butt and push the soap all the way in there.  It has a combined lubricant and irritant (potentially strong irritant) effect - and it's almost guaranteed to make her do a smelly in half an hour!

  3. try a nice warm soaking bath....massage her tummy, rubbing CLOCKWISE on her tummy to stimulate her digestive system.  Keep up w/ making sure she's drinking plenty of water.  You might also try just some stretches or squats to help her move it down...so to speak....hope she's going soon and feeling better. I'm sure she's miserable.

  4. fiber helps too.  try raisins or other high fiber foods

  5. stool softeners- not strong like laxitives but they kindof work the same.. fruit, water, greens, nuts, no candy.

  6. SHE NEEDS A CHILD FLEETS e***a.

  7. Try peppermint water. Take a peppermint and let it dissolve in water. They will not know the difference and it works. I have all my neighbors hip to it.

  8. Stop feeding them food which causes them to become constipated?

  9. try a tsp of Light Karo syrup. you can find it in the grocery. its natural and works really well, and has a sweet taste.

my dughter suffered horribly with constipation, i am an RN, and this will be gentle and works.  Good luck to your little sweetie!

  10. Canned spinach???  Would she eat that??
