i have a really bad sore throat. it hurts to breathe, eat, drink, swallow, and coughing and sneezing is out of the question.

what are some real home remedies that actually work???

Since your throat is hurting this much, I recommend you go to your doctor and get cultured for strep throat first and foremost, as it's very contagious and can be dangerous.  Other remedies that have worked for me with sore throats are as follows:  1) homeopathic Mercuris vivus.  Take 3-5 tabs every 15 minutes for an hour and thereafter same dose 4x/day until the symptoms change; 2) Some folks swear by gargling with sea salted water;  3) Garlic, just peel and eat; 4)  I have had excellent results with lots of citrus juices and vitamin C in 1,000mg quantities several times/day for some sore throats.  Usually, if it's truly strep, NONE of these remedies will work and you'll need to go see your GP to get scrip for antibiotics.  I ALWAYS try the natural remedies first for a few days and use allopathic medicine ONLY as a last resort, after I've run out of options.

  5. Colloidal silver appears to work by inhibiting specific enzymes necessary for normal metabolism of the infectious organism, eventually killing it. Because these enzymes are present in over 650 bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi, silver is effective on hundreds of infectious organisms.

    Prior to 1938, colloidal silver was commonly used by physicians as an antibiotic until the advent of penicillin and other modern antibiotics.

    Currently, prescription antibiotics are becoming less effective because of their overuse and the ability of organisms to mutate into antibiotic- resistant forms. This is where silver is unique.

  6. I would do the following in order, and then stop when you're satisfied with your health improvement.  They all have worked numerous times in the past, and I just listed the easiest/most effective ones first.

    1)  Gargle (but do not swallow) hydrogen peroxide (the 3.5% grade found in the store).  This works wonders for getting rid of throat infections.

    2)  Drink a lot of warm or hot green tea.  With this one, you should notice a soothing feeling of the throat.

    3) Drink some colloidal silver (although it may be hard to get ahold of).

    4) Eat some (preferable raw) garlic, and try to let it hang around in the sore part of your throat for a bit before you swallow.

    5) Get a liquid mixture of capsicum (active ingredient in chili peppers) and slowly swallow it so it can get into your infected throat.  This works as well, but it's not particularly pleasant unless you love mexican food.

    Hope that helps, truthfully 1 & 2 almost always get the job done.

    Additionally, the following things tend to improve your immune system and aid in recovery.

    1) Make sure you get adequete sleep.

    2) Make sure you aren't being stressed.

    3) Refrain from eating sugar (and if possible processed foods and sodas).

    4) Try to eat lots of fresh vegetables and think with vitamin C such as grapefruits.

    Hope that helps.  That's about everything I know which I have consistently observed works.  There are a lot of other things which are claimed to, but I can't state that I am certain of their efficacy.

  7. -Rest your voice.

    -Drink at least 8 glasses of fluids a day. Warm drinks with honey and lemon are particularly soothing.

    -Gargle with a salt solution. Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of water, gargle for 20-30 seconds and spit it out.
