In my opinion, I would have to say Grits. I live in a very rural area and to kill our ants we use uncooked Grits. The ants either eat the grits or take them back to their queen. The grits expand when they get wet and basically kill the ant. It sounds crazy but it really works. Hope this helps...

Dump your Coffee Grounds on the mounds and they will carry the grounds back in to the mound but they can not break down the acids in them and in effect it kills the entire mound.

Someone said grits, but cornmeal works too.  Sprinkle cornmeal.

They also hate fresh lemon juice but it doesn't work for long.  The best thing I found was mixing boric acid powder (it says for killing roaches on the bottle) with some powdered sugar and putting that around the foundation of my house.

Use vinegar mixed with water after you clean your counters(or your floors.. prety much anywhere).  Just spray it from a spray bottle and leave it.  It should keep them away.
