Ok so i've been home school since I was in the 5th grade now im in the 9th grade. I was on a homeschool program and passed to the 6th grade, but after that my parents couldn't afford to keep paying for my school...so I have just been learning from books that my mom buys me. But my question is...is there a program where I can get my high school diploma without having transcripts?

  1. If what you are describing is more of an unschooled approach to high school, you might look into www.ClonLara.org  They can help you to put together all the independant study work that you have done and write class descriptions, so to speak, for each subject.

If what you are describing is simply an eclectic gathering of traditional study materials, you just need to know how to put together a transcript.  It is not that hard and many books exist to help you.  I highly recommend a transcript.  It not only will help you with job applications or college admittance, but it also makes a statement for home schoolers, in general.  It says that we take learning seriously and that it really did happen, even if through a non-traditional format.

These are 2 books I personally recommend:

College Without Compromise, by Scott and Kris Wightman

    and

Homeschooling High School, by Jeanne Gowen Dennis

These have more than you asked, but they would give you help there plus provide more than you imagined in perspective and encouragement.

  2. There are plenty of correspondence schools that you should be able to find online.

  3. Why don't you attend Public School?

Public School offers many great activities.

  4. The main reason to have a diploma is to show that you are educated enough to get along in the world, including being able to hold a job. There are a few ways to do that.

A diploma shows you've completed someone's course of study.  Your parents could give one.  The transcripts show the classes you've taken and the grades you received for them.  Someone else isn't likely to give you a diploma, because you weren't in their school, just like if you were in a public school up to a week before graduation, then moved to a new state--the new high school wouldn't give you a diploma because you didn't take their classes.

Another way is to make a portfolio, which not only shows what you did, but what you learned from doing it.  (because that doesn't always happen just because you sat in a class!)

And another way is to pass a test, like the GED or California High School Profeciency Exam.

A lot of times you can take classes at the local community college.  Once you've taken a class it kicks you up to the next level, of having "some college" and the high school diploma doesn't really matter much anymore.

My oldest son graduated from our homeschool, and we also weren't able to afford being part of a program.  He went to college, has since gotten married and just bought a house.  As his principal, I was asked once when he applied for his first job (with a national corporation) to fill out a paper they sent me.  It had a box that said applicant has / has not received diploma.  I marked it and sent it back.

The next one took classes at the junior college while high school age, then went into the Air Force, where he was a higher level and paid more than the guys who just graduated.  He's now in graduate school.

You need to know what you want to do with your diploma. Then see what the best way is to achieve that goal .

  5. this might sound dumb.. but couldn't you do online schooling?
