  1. AS others said, the cost depends on how you do it.  Unlike what others said, it will not hurt your chances of getting into college, provided you take a college prep course of study, including:

    Algebra 1-2

    Geometry

    Trig- or PreCalc

Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, and preferably physics.

    Foreign language.

    4 years of English

Whatever else your state requires, plus electives.

  2. It really depends so much on how you want to do it, what kind of work you want to spend.  A lot of people just purchase curricula whole, which contains all the books, workbooks, etc. That can add up really quickly.

We have designed our own curriculum, and we find books as we need them, so we utilize the public library a lot (and yes, you can get textbooks from most public libraries) We also go to used book sales, and usually pay less than $5 for each text that we do purchase.

Now we unschool, and don't need textbooks. It is as valid as regular high school, and ignore the socialization comments, we actually see friends every day.

  3. you will have to pay for the books and you will get into a better college if you don't homeschool. however, it is too expensive for me to go to private school and my parents do not want me to go public school so i am stuck.

  4. Some Parents like their child to be home school. But what i think its that its cutting but into their social life. Later in life it is going to be hard if you get home school. And you do have get the books or the program but public high schools are free!

  5. If you buy books, the yes they cost money.  There are plenty available at the library.  I usually check the library first and if there is a book I want that I can't get that way, then I buy it.

While I don't see the great importance of highschool anymore than any other stage in life, yes homeschooling would be just as important.

Homeschooling allows for more socializing because you have more time to do what you want.  There is also a wider group of people with whom you can interact when you are in the world rather than stuck in a classroom.  There are people from various age and cultural groups, with much more diversity than in public school.

I'm not sure how/why people keep twisting the social opportunities around, it's quite the conundrum.

    Good luck :D

  6. it does cost money, but the amount depends on the program.  Like, my mom has spent a lot this year on DVD classes and homeschool choir (which is awesome!).  But I've gone to public school, and I've enjoyed homeschool more and have learned more.

  7. If you want to follow a set curriculum then yes it will cost (although you might be able to a find source for the books second-hand).

There are online schools and if you 'unschool' the internet can be a fantastic resource. Combined with your local library it's possible to HS at very little cost and at the same time provide a fantastic education.

  8. Sigh...sorry for the first two answers.  Actually, they didn't bother to answer.

Yes, the books cost money, but many companies offer them at a nice discount.  Much of the curriculum is also available free on the internet and at the library.  I homeschool my accelerated 5th grader for around $300 per year.

As long as you're motivated to keep up with it, you can actually get a better education through homeschooling; you can move at your own pace, choose your own resources, and decide (with your parents) on your coursework.  You can design your coursework to apply to your learning style, interests, and future plans.  You're not restricted to what's offered (and in what order) at a school - you can take what you're ready for, as early or as late as you're ready to take it.

The diploma and transcript that you receive is every bit as legit as any school would hand out, and colleges LOVE homeschoolers.

    Hope that helps!

  9. You have got to want it.

It hold you back a little from the social part of school but other than its good. It costs money even if you do an on line school you still have to pay for books that go with it. Regular high school would be fun because of the dances and games and friends and stuff like that but if you aren't worried about that and want to get ahead this is a great way to start.

  10. I don't get why you would want to do that to your children. Let them make friends in a school. Just send them to school. It'll cost the same!!!!!!! =)
