Home school vs. Public school?

Whats better?

I'm asking people that have done both.

Which has easier school and which one did you get better grades in.

And for people that have or are home schooled how did you hang out with and make friends?

And If you have never been to public school would 9th grade or the first year of high school be a bad year to start?

Also if there's any Questions I have missed feel free to tell me more stuff about the two.

Thanks.

  1. I don't know if you can necessarily mark one as better or worse. After having 'seen both sides of the mirror' I personally think home schooling is better. Being home schooled was easier for me, not because the material was easier because it wasn't, but because I had much more one on one time. I remember starting public school in fourth grade and being mortified when my teacher put me in the less advanced english and math classes only to find out a week later that I had learned everything from those classes long ago. She assumed because I was home schooled (and because I had a few health issues) that I would not possibly be caught up with the other students.

When I was home schooled hanging out with other children was simply not an issue. My parents just had their 8th child two weeks ago, so not only did I have my siblings and cousins, I was involved in tons of activities. I took dance classes, swimming lessons, was on a t-ball team, took a gym class at the YMCA, attended a few co-op classes, went to activities at the library such as story time, and the list goes on. I was in no way 'deprived of socialization' as some people put it. I had a psychology teacher who tried to tell my classmates that children who are home schooled will 'never be able to survive in the real world' and 'are being deprived of so much in life,' lets just say I had a mouthful for him and told him what home schooling is truly like. After that he watched what he said more carefully.

I have to say that when I was home schooled I also felt much more motivated. When your in school and either doing something you know how to do, or have to wait sometimes 10 minutes for a teacher to control their class (yes this has happened to me) you loss your patiences pretty fast. I also felt twenty times safer then I do sometimes in my school. The school I'm at is a decent school, but we still have fights in the cafeteria every other week at the minimum and in the past three years my high school has had four bomb threats. That doesn't tend to make a good enviornment for learning.

But I guess home schooling is a very personal decision. For some people home schooling doesn't even cross their minds, for others home schooling is a definate. All I can say is that from experiencing both I have to admit public school has been a terrible experience. Not because I'm anti-social or anything, because I'm not, I have friends, but because I know what I'm missing out on. What I'm missing out on is home schooling.

  2. Both have their pros and cons.I was home schooled all my life until last year.I found that I got the same grades in both home school and public school. One thing about home school is that you can work at your own pace which was great. When I was home schooled I did functions with my local home school group. We did a lot of the same things other public schooled kids did and it was really fun.I started public school a bit younger than you did but I think you would be okay.It can be hard to adjust to depending on the person but as long as you try to keep a positive outlook you should be fine.Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to people and joining after school activities help.Overall I think public school and home school are very good sources of education but it depends on what you are ready to try and what your parents feel is best for you.

  3. Homeschooling!

I have done both for at least 2 years.

I think home school is easier less distraction and less peer pressure.

I get better grades in both...I am a straight A student.

I hang with school friends on weekends But other homeschool friends during the weekdays at numerous classes and activities. I make friends in all my activities.

I think I would always stay home schooled. Yes 9th grade would be the best cause you won't be the only one totally lost!

  4. All I can say is, I've been homeschooled since the 5th grade, and I regret not going back to public school freshman year.

If you want my personal opinion, go to public school dude...But it's different for everyone, you may be happier with homeschooling, it's just been nothing but loneliness and misery for me.

But I wish you the best in whatever choice you make =/

You can email me if you want to talk further about it...
