  1. The most common is what I call "School in a box" which is your Penn Foster type that you buy and it comes in the mail

Next most common is virtual school or on-line school, especially since at least two states I am aware of provide it for free to residents and it provides a HS diploma.

The third most common is users choice.  That can include a Penn Foster offering, an ABeka offering, some books from Barnes and Noble or the Library or used thrift store books.

It's whatever you chose to use to get the job done form whatever source is available to you.

The least common is unschooling, which HAS to include some traditional texts and homeschooling material to be effective.  You need some math materials, some historical materials, some science references, a dictionary, etc.

Unschooling would include things like intensive computer programming in C++ or C# or BASIC

    Electronics

Music, drawing, sculpture on a practical basis.

Intensive writing, ususally creative or non-fiction, often with the goal of publication.

Apprenticing in a field like construction, electrical, plumbing, auto repair

Making use of cable TV offerings like Discovery, History, Science, PBS

  2. Prototypes are original models. So, I suppose the first people since schools didn't exist?

If you mean stereotypes, well, I'm not one who thinks in stereotypes and I try to avoid them. But things I've heard from others:

Homeschooled kids are smarter/dumber than public schooled kids.

    Homeschooled kids are very social/anti-social.

Homeschooled kids don't get a good education/get a great education.

    Homeschooled kids are weird/normal.

As you can see, each side has its own stereotype to pass along.

  3. If you are concerned with your image of being homeschooled you need to talk to your parents.  They need to take into consideration your feelings on this especially if you are in your teenage years or approaching them.

  4. Do you mean "stereotype?"

Prototype usually means an early but working design.

  5. Intelligent, well-read, well behaved, disciplined, an independant person.

  6. I don't know what you're asking.  Are you asking about types or styles of homeschooling, or what people think of homeschooling?  Or am I completely off-base and you mean something else?  Please clarify.

  7. Prototype = An original type, form or instance serving as a basis or standard for later stages.

Okay, I can't see how that possibly fits in to your question. Come to that, I can't even work out what it is you're trying to ask/reckon you're asking.

Even if one assumes you meant 'stereotype' (as previously suggested), 'fraid your question's still as clear as mud to me: do you mean stereotypical views of homeschoolers? Or stereotypical views of homeschooling? Or stereotypical views of schooled kids?

Or stereotypes concerning the differences twixt unschooled kids and schooled kids? Or twixt unschooled kids, home schooled kids and conventionally schooled kids? Or the stereotypes typically associated with a billion and one other possible subjects?

Or did you mean something completely different?

  8. I can make no sense of this question.
