  1. i was home schooled kindergarten to 2nd grade

i enjoyed it, but past elementary this practice should be stopped, i know a few home schoolers who have been home schooled their whole life BUT they enjoy being social with other people. They know home schoolers that basically hide them selves from the world. They will lack social skills when they go to college, plus they don't always get taught the best, and so they don't learn as much as most public schoolers.

that is what i think about it

  2. I am.

    I started when I was 10, and I'm 16 now.

And no, I don't like it.

Edit: Why do people give me thumbs down?

The question was "Are you or have you been home schooled?" And I answered.

    And.

"If so did you like it?" And I answered.

The first question was asking my educational situation.

And the other was asking how I like it.

It just shows me homeschool families can be as close minded on things just as much as the people who are against homeschooling.

    Just a thought.

  3. I havent, though considered it for a short while. U need someone to teach you, and follow a set curriculum which includes external examinations if u do, so think about it.

  4. I've been home schooled for 6th grade cause of problems I was having. And I'm in high school right now and they put me on homebound schooling because they don't want me dropping out. And I have some problems. Um did I like being home schooled I loved it cause I didn't have to go to school but I still got to see my friends. Now it's driving me crazy but that'll get fixed soon.

  5. I do school by correspondance so I do it all at home and have met only 1 of my teacers. I love it because it gives me the flexibility I need and it also gives me more time with family and friends if I so choose and also extra cirricular activities.

  6. I am in 8th grade and have been homeschooled via virtual charter school for 2 years. I hate it. There is zero social interaction.  When i went to catholic school I was first in my class everyyear and had a billion friends and all the teachers liked me.  I went to homeschool and I am on the verge of failing. The curriculum is flawed and I have to sit at home with my mom everyday! Bad idea. Don't be homeschooled!

  7. I am and have been my entire life (I'm 17 now).  I think it's been really good for me, but it's not the right thing for everyone.  It makes it so my schedule is flexible, so I'm able to do school, have a horseback riding lesson once a week, go to my Shotokan Karate class 3 times a week, and work usually 3 mornings a week for 4 hours.  I only have to be in school for as long as it takes me to do the work, so I'm not wasting time in class or in the halls when I don't need to be.  I'm a very social person, and I love being with people.  I have 4 "best" friends, and several others who I enjoy spending my time with.  I don't think that I'm any worse off for being homeschooled, but I also think a big part of that is the fact that I've been actively involved with a martial art and the club at which I'm taught for 11 years.  It's helped me become focused and hard-working, and I've also made all of my best friends through it.  So I guess my point is that it really depends on the person and on how the schooling is done.  Sometimes it's the worst idea in the world, for me I think it was probably the best.

  8. I am 15 I have been internet schooled for the past year or so ( its like home school) No I dont like it home school can be a major pain but if you get a tutor to help you with some things it can get better.

  9. No, there was no such choice when I went to school. It can be good if you have a disability, but for learning how to get along with other people I don't think it is good.

  10. I am, and I absolutely LOVE it.

  11. I've been homeschooled since third grade, and overall, I guess it's fine.

It's not like every day is a funtabulous learning adventure. Some days suck, some days rock, most days are okay. I imagine that's just life.

I'm at or above grade level in most subjects, I have some friends, I enjoy my social life, and I figure it beats going to school.

Some days I would like to be in school. I don't like being an instant outsider the second anyone mentions school. I try to gloss over it -since it's not a big part of my identity- but everyone only wants to talk about that, and I end up being 'the homeschooled kid.' There are a few times that hasn't happened, but it's happened often enough to be the norm. I get sick of being subjected to irritating groupthink. Someone thinks, "X was homeschooled, and he was [insert annoying traits]. So, since Azzy is homeschooled, she must be just like him! After all, they share a telepathic bond and have the secret decoder ring." I wouldn't mind a little less to keep track of. I'd like to have access to a school band or orchestra -my local school doesn't have either, for the record-.

But, overall, not being in school is worth it. I'm an independent student, so my parents aren't my teachers and I can learn what I want, how I want to. I wake up early, do work from 8-12, and have the whole day to s***w around. I can spend quality time with my boyfriend. I can take a day off if I need it. I don't have any mindless busywork. My social life doesn't have to fit somewhere between school, three or four hours of homework -that's how much my friends in school have- and extracurriculars. I can go to a hit movie at noon on a Tuesday.

There are drawbacks to homeschooling, but in my case, going back to school is certainly not the answer.

  12. I've been home-educated all my life. I'm currently 15. Well, I did go to school once for 5 weeks when we were stuck down in the city but that was the singlemost boring, pointless, frustrating experience of my life!

No, I don't like it; I love it.

It very much depends on you though. You'll only get out of home-ed what you yourself are prepared to put into it in terms of time, effort etc. As a home-ed kid, you have to consciously work at having a social life, going out, spending time with your friends. You can't sit on your bum at home and expect those things to just happen for you like you can if you're at school!

And, no, despite what the first poster (Eduardo) claims, one does *not* need 'someone to teach you' or a 'set curriculum' or 'external exams' to be successfully home-educated. There are numerous ways to 'homeschool' and having someone teach you, using a set curriculum, taking external exams is only one of those ways of going about it. My siblings and I are all unschooling auto-didacts; we're going great with none of those things.

  13. i was homeschooled for kindergarten to 3rd grade and 5th grade to 10th grade. i hated it and i resent my parents to this day  for making me be homeschooled. i am 26 now.

  14. I was home schooled in the said to be worst years- middle school and high school. I did enjoy the experience though! and I think its bull that people said that you will lack social skills. They have groups that u meet up with and my mom had me go do the shopping for her during the day and so on, so u do learn a lot of good skills

  15. I am homeschooled right know and I have been homeschooled all my life, but im going to highschool next year. I am in the 8th grade and my mom homeschooled my two older sister until 10th grade. Im doing a new program this year called Connections Academy. Its a virtual school but its also a pilot program. I love being homeschooled its cool and fun.

  16. i am home schooled and have been all my school years, i am 16 now. i love it. its fun and i dont want to go to any other school. especially ones where i live, too many people get murdered in the high schools around here.
