Question:

Home-schooled??

I really really really hate school. I have a few good friends, but I still really hate school and here's why; the popular girls annoy the heck out of me, and they are so obnoxious to the teachers but the teachers don't care. I go to extra help, but I still don't understand what all the teachers mean. When my mom helps me out with homework, everything is so much easier. I've asked her to be home-schooled a few times and she said no. I want to be home-schooled SO badly, how can I get her to say yes??

Also, I'm in 8th grade, and wondering if it would be too late to be home-schooled? And what is the typical day of a home-schooler? Does it get boring? Is it weird learning from your parent? Are you still close with your school-friends? Etc. And I'd like to hear the answer from a home-schooler's point of view. Thank you!

  1. I am a Home-School grad.. I loved it!!! Many of the things i learned have helped me in college. I was home-schooled my entire life never once going to a public school. I have many friends who were both home-schooled and attended public school.

here is the web site for the Home-School legal defense association  http://www.hslda.org   if your mom has worries about being alone there are many support groups for Home-Schoolers at your local library there should be a book somewhere that has some phone numbers in it for the group leaders or just ask a librarian there they usually know the homeschooling families well

    i hope this helps

  2. just tough it out. you only have a few more years. and high school gets MUCH better! I HATED middle school but in high school the teachers are cooler, there really aren't any popular kids. and you'll meet a ton of new, mature people. (:

just hold tight and you'll be satisfied with school soon enough!

  3. im homeschooled and first of all, its never too late to start. its kinda complicated. lifes way easier when youre homeschooled, because you dont have to have all the work shoved down your throat. but alot of homeschooled kids get judged. like, everyone wonders how i get friens, or if i even have any, and if i actually learn anything or just sit in front of the tv all day. but after a year or something, youll get used to it!

  4. I am homeschooled and you should tell your mom that a homeschooler has better test scores than a public schooler and a private schooler. It is not really weird learning from you parents because you can basically do it by yourself. You just read the book and stuff. You might be able to look online, at some places you are still homeschooled but you go once a week and you can pick the classes you want to take and I take four at the place I am going and they give you homework abd it does cost money but it is so much better and they are great teachers and they aren't snoby.

The biggest thing that you will be able to convince her is that homeschoolers have higher test scores than public and private schoolers and they don't learn about the bad stuff that you find out in high-school. You will be better off at home.

It is cool with friends because you are even closer. You see each other less but it is at happy times insteed of you being like " I have had a terrible day and I want to go home" all the time. I have been homeschooled my whole life and so has my whole family and the older ones are doing great in college and are making the Dean's list and my oldest brother is graduated so you will like homeschooling a lot beter.

Here is a source that gives you the oppinions of homeschoolers and public schoolers. I hope you change!

  5. I went to public school, but I want to tell you, it will get better. Junior High/Middle School is a crappy time for everyone. Stick it out and high school will be even better...and then college will even be better than that! It not a matter of public vs. home school it is just the age you are.

  6. No way its not to late! Im homeschooled! I have my friends from other activitys! I LOVE BEING HOMESCHOOLED!

  7. Highschool really prepares you for the real world. If you're not prepared it's hard to know what to expect when you're on your own. You can do it.

    We have faith!

  8. i started home schooling in the 9th grade, so no it's not too late. My mom doesn't teach me, cuz i just read the material and understand it. Home schooling has grown quite a bit so now u have a bunch of stuff that u can be taught on the computer, and if u still don't understand then u can ask your mom to help. I didn't stay in touch with my friends from school, b/cuz i really didn't have ne body that i would call a true friend, but i have other friends who are homeschooling, and we keep in touch by talking on aim every day, and i have other friends who aren't homeschooled that i talk to everyday. I do all kinds of stuff with my friends, and i can count it as a feild trip. I would say homeschooling is the best, especially if ur interested in graduating early I'm currently in the 10th grade, but i'm graduating next year, b/cuz i've now got the opporatunity to work ahead. Now if u didn't wanna work ahead, then u could just do ur reagualr school, and then graduate with ur friends, but like i said, i really didn't have ne true friends, so don't have the desire to do that. Well i hope this helped, buh bye!!
