  1. Well, yes they can be very helpful. However, current up to date textbooks can offer newer, up-to-date information that can really come in handy for teaching your child. Newer textbooks are likely to feature new innovative ways of problems solving or teaching complex subjects. However, not all newer published textbooks best explain its content. So, I would stick with something more recent, but not too old, as it may not have certain valuable information you may need. Best of luck.

  2. Older is by far better!

The vocabulary used in older texts far exceeds the quality of newer books.

In the grand scheme of things if you take the last 20 years worth of knowledge and weigh it against that of the past 2000 years you will see that we have only 1% of that time-frame.

Try picking up a book that was written 200 years ago -- you will find in it a wealth of information.

English, Algebra and Physics haven't really changed for the better in recent years.  Look at the way the schools have dumbed down the material in order to allow more children to "pass".

  3. idk.  i think the best curriculum for algebra is teaching textbooks and it's pretty new.  some of the older stuff can get a little repetitive and just plain boring.  also, some science curriculums can be out-dated and missing current information.

i agree that there are some things that are timeless teaching tools but that doesn't mean that the new stuff is not good.
