Question:

Home schooling lesson plan ideas for a 7 yr old?

He is doing fractions for math, reading and book reports, spelling, and learning about American History. We also have him learning about Buddha this year, meditation, and tai chi. He has piano once a week.

But still it seems like he is doing a lot of worksheets and listening to "lectures".

So does anyone have any lesson plan ideas, movies, games or activity ideas?

Thanks :)

  1. You might want to have a look at the enchanted learning site.  To get the best use of the site you will have to pay a $20 fee to join.  It will give you tons of ideas and resources.  Best of luck with it.

  2. Is this your first year homeschooling? Don't worry about getting everything perfect, life in itself teaches many lessons. For example if you pass by a rainbow and he asks how that rainbow came about and you explain, learning has occurred. Teaching him basics through worksheets is fine but there is no need to overdo it. A sample for each subject and some flyers from "fieldtrips" are fine for a portfolio. Watching Ice Age is acceptable, playing Oregon Trail on the computer, counting money at the checkout or at home, writing a letter to family or friends....the options are endless. Homeschooling doesn't need to be sitting down to books on a regular basis and some people do not use text books or worksheets at all. Many use hands on life and learning situations. You can use pictures or jot notes as a portfolio sample.

How about pottery, playing a game of checkers, letting him create his own country, write a poem. There is a great site called weatherwizkids.com where he can recreate weather related situations.
