  1. The laws for your State are going to be at a website called HSLDA ( HomeSchool Legal Defense Assoc) and is at www.hslda.org.

Each State has different laws and expectations for homeschoolers ( some are very easy while others are much harder).

There are many different ways to homeschool:

Cover or Umbrella School ( these are schools that hold onto your grades and other paperwork)

Distance ( These schools send you your work , books and tests, you return your work and get your grades)

Virtual ( this option does not make you are true homeschooler since you will be subject to Public School rules)

    Classical

    Unschooling or Deschooling

Religious ( contrary to popular belief, only a small percentage of homeschoolers are religious zealots)

    Unit Study

There are groups you can join both online and in real life for things like socialization, crafts, study groups, PE, support, etc.

There are also websites that you can get worksheets and the likes from at little to no cost ( other than printer paper and ink cost). There are websites that do virtual work like www.frogguts.com ( virtual frog dissection) or www.obdk.com ( virtual owl pellet dissection) to give you an idea. Be aware that fieldtrips will also count as a schoolday ( unless you use a virtual school) and simply take a camera and write about the experience ( smart homeschoolers know how to find cheap fieldtrips).

You and your family need to do your homework by googleing homeschooling and the different types to decide what works best for your situation. You can also get info from the Library and bookstores and like I said there are also online groups thru Yahoo and CafeMom and other such sites.

    The best of luck.

  2. I homeschooled with flvs.

    www.flvs.net/

It is open to anyone, even if you don't live in florida.

It is one of the best homeschools out there.

I like that it isn't all on the parents, there is an instructor for each course for the student to contact.

They provide you will all the materials necessary.  You don't have to pay for the materials - you return them to the school at the end of the year.  I've looked into other programs and they get very complicated.  FLVS is simple and straight-forward; makes it very easy for the parents.
