  1. I also use the leapfrog products. They have a few movies for the little guys that are just great at teaching the basics. "The Talking Letter Factory" is a great one to start with. Also get the refridgerator magnets. It doesnt have to be the leapfrog ones (the regular ones are much much cheeper and work just as well). My three boys love them. I also got the generic workbooks from walmart. They have pre-k workbooks all the way thru I think 3rd grade. Even if they only color in them. It helps. I found that walmart or any of the office stores have general teaching aids. Its always fun to see what they have.

    Enjoy!

  2. There are tons of great sites out there. I too have recently looking for these materials.  I searched for Free preschool lessons and found great different sites.  There are some who charge for themes and such, however, most are free sites with printable activities.

  3. Try Starfall for the alphabet/letter recognition:

  4. I went to Borders Books today to browse through some of their homeschooling materials. I was suprised what all i found! they seemed to have alot of this ,that, and the other for preschooling and a whole lot of activity books to get them ready for pre k. or any bookstore probally has the same things. My youngest Daughter had the "Leapfrog" alaphabet sights and sounds. This was the only toy she would play with! She is now in the first grade and making all A`s in spelling. the "Leapfrog" products are just wonderful!!! Also, the dry erase things where they can learn tracing ,and begin using their motor skills in their hands is a good way to let them practice!!!! good luck to you!!!

  5. I think you will need this book called "1001 best websites for kids" by lynn gustafron. Go to amazon.com to get a better price. I paid $5 for mine. here are some sites listed in this book"

    pbs.org

    preschooleducation.com

    barney.com

    theideabox.com

    kindlepark.com

    nickjr.com

    noddy.com

    sesameworkshop.org

    meddybemps.com (younger children)

    randomhouse.com

  6. I use: http://www.enchantedlearning.com

    http://games.pppst.com/preschool.html

    Just to name a few!

  7. We like to learn through play in our home, so I try to use activities when teaching letters and numbers.

    Hope this helps!

  8. better than downloaded worksheets: for letter recognition AND phonics, get leapfrog's fridge magnets. each letter has a chip that, when placed in the docking station, plays a little song with that letter's name and the sound it makes.

for online educational games, try pbskids.org, there are many there that feature the PBS shows' characters, which help to keep kids interested.

there's more to reading and math than number and letter recognition: phonics awareness, positional words, sequence, pattern recognition, etc. google pre-math skills and pre-reading skills to find more.

  9. Honestly, I pretty much just stocked up on Leap Frog games and toys. I read to my son every single day many times a day. He was reading and writing his 7 letter name by the time he was 4. He couldn't write stories or anything, but he certainly knew the names and sounds of the letters and knew his numbers. Between having the right toys and a parent who actively participates, your child will be more that prepared for the next level when it's time.

But here is a link to a site with free printables...

    Good Luck!
