Home system subwoofer?

Have a home subwoofer that is powered and a built in crossover. When the power to it is off, but it's plugged in and the receiver is on it hums. It also hums when turned on and the bass is a constant not a flow when needed like it should be, what can the problem be?

The hum you hear is electrical mains hum (at around 50Hz (just to be nerdy) often refereed to as ground loop hum.

This can be caused by either a poor quality amplifier, or by poor quality cables. It sounds like poor cables in your case, so try replacing the sub-link with a shielded cable which should remove any hum you have, if not try moving your sub woofer further away from the receiver and untangling all cables making them as neat as possible, but under no circumstances should you leave any cables in the metal cable ties they were in when you took them out of the box, not only will this ruin the sound quality, but it is also a fire risk.

It seems you have a ground loop problem.

I would check the connection between the sub, and receiver.

I would also chect the electrical connection/surge protector.

Try to isolate the problem. Try changing sub cable with another one and use different electrical outlet
