i need to purchase a movie projector to be installed on the floor and at a distance of 15' from the wall screen (this is a must due to room size limitations) and produce a screen size of 12' wide x 9' height (lots of zoom). i would like to be within $1000 range. could you please suggest manufacturers/models? thanks

  1. Go to projector central's website, they have a calculator for determining screen size and projection distance for all makes and models.  There you could compare different models at different price points.

  2. 12' wide is too big a screen for the room ... your viewers will get neck strain.  See the viewing distance calculator at the link.  Basically, you don't want a screen to be so big the left and right edges subtend a viewing angle more than about 40 degrees.

Furthermore to use a 9' high screen you would need a sloped floor and a room at least 11' high (since the bottom edge of the screen should be at least 18" off the floor).

Furthermore, you don't want to mount a projector on the floor (It limits where you can sit) It's much better to mount high on a rear wall or ceiling mount it inverted and project down. That way the image goes over everyones head and you can sit in front of the projector.
