  1. Too long to explain.  Go to Best Buy or Circuit City and ask a rep.  They got that stuff down.

  2. you need a av receiver. best buy circuit city etc. or better yet on-line. Just speaker cable will work,

  3. You need a stereo (2 channel) or (if you intend to buy more speakers later) surround receiver (or amplifier).  Note that many TV programs are not surround sound so a surround receiver is a bigger investment (more expensive component plus you need 4 more speakers).

Before considering make sure your TV has an audio out jack (e,g, red/white RCA jacks). Note some TVs have the capability to  accept external speaker. I assume yours doesn't but if it does you don't need an amp ... just connect the speakers via speaker wires.

If there is a stereo audio output you connect the TV (via an RCA to RCA cable) to a stereo input on the receiver/amp and the speakers (via normal speaker wire) to the output posts on the receiver/amp.

Where do you get a receiver:  any electronics store ... but if you want you could buy a cheap one used via Craig-list or eBay, or from a used electronics equipment store. You don't need anything fancy ... probably $50 will do it (for stereo) or $100 for a surround model.

    Hope that helps.

  4. Dont bother.

There are 2 reasons you should not do this:

    - those MTS speakers are bottom-of-the-barrel speakers sold to young and impressionable kids w/o a lot of knowlege or money.

    - Modern DVD and HD-TV sound is a 5.1 sound, not stereo

You need an Dolby Digital AV receiver, and 5 nearly identical speakers with a self-powered subwoofer.

Check your local Craigslist. There are some really good Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer systems that are 6-8 years old selling for a few hundred dollars that include speakers and these will serve you much better than a "new" receiver for those dinosaur speakers.
