Home theater receiver?

im looking for a new home theater system and was wondering if you had any suggestions. Im currently looking at Harman/kardon as a company. Do you have any suggestions on good home theater speaker/receiver brands and why?

Harmon Kardon makes a decent receiver but they also make a few not so decent ones so it will depend on what model your looking at.

I like Denon, Onkyo, and Yamaha for receivers. All 3 make very good products and use high quality components. Depending on your budget, Macintosh (not Apple computer) makes one of the best amps in the world but I think they start around $5,000.

Speakers are really in the ear of the beholder. You have to do a lot of legwork. Test out Klipsch, Cambridge soundworks, Polk, Boston Acoustics and Definitive Technologies (only sold online but they're very nice for the $ and they do accept returns).

Those speakers are in the middle range, price wise. If you have a large budget, you'll want to try Martin Logan as well.

Dont forget Pioneer elite thay are more expensive then most

but is a beautiful piece to look at.

I have a Harman Kardon AVR and I love it. I bought it at onecall.com for 55% off, as it was last years model. You can also buy factory repaired refurbs at the HK ebay store.

Denon also makes a really nice high current AVR that is more reasonable that the HK.

Onkyo receiver and klipsch speakers.  Onkyo makes the best priced receivers with the most features.  Klipsch speakers are very efficient and put out tons of sound with great detail.
