What is the best top of the line best sounding speakers available,

budget around $3000-$4000 us currency for a home theatre system.

Look into a set of Paradigm Signature series, if you are willing to spend $1000 more, you can get into S8 territory, and knock your socks off. B&W also makes some outstanding stuff for the cash in your range, and you will not be disappointed.

I have logitech Z5500 bought for under $700 Aus. and they are great, great surround sound and stereo for music and very easy to set up.

From my 25 years of experimenting with audio and video gear, in your price range, I would get either the Silverline Audio Prelude for the fronts and the rears (or 4 Minuets) and their LCR for the center channel.  Then for the sub, I would choose one or two Hsu Research VTF-2 Mk3 powered subwoofers.

There's actually quite a few choices in your price range that would be fantastic, but that would be my choice given your budget as the best you can get new.  Used gear is a whole new ballgame.
