According to a company called Home Cure, they claim that 32 million Americans are suffering from a condition called Hypothyroidism, or a sluggish thyroid, which can cause a number of symtoms, especially, fatigue. HomeCure promotes and sells a product called Thyactive which is iodine taken orally. I'm wondering if you can enlighten me with more information on this product, and just how effective and safe it is. Thanks, Robert

  1. In the USA the salt, the bread and several more nutrients contain iodine. Thus a broad deficit does not exist. The normal intake per day is 150 to 200 µg (microgram). More can be harmful and produce a hyper-function, and a higher dosage cannot be recommended.

  2. There are many vital nutrients depleted in our soil and show up as deficiencies in our food supply!! Iodine is one!!

There is a simple test that anyone can do that will give you an idea as to whether you are deficient or not!! Take ordinary ticture of iodine -used for everyday cuts- create a 2 inch target on the inside of your thigh!! If the target fades or disappears within 24 hours then you are deficient!

Taking prolamine iodine -one doc recommends 3 mgs. for a few days -actually he recommends for a coupe of weeks but being cautious -a few days!! Repeat the target test and see!!

One should also get tested on occassion for thyroxin levels-it goes with the normal blood count lab tests for your yearly physical -or it should!!

many doctors -if the thyroid is low -just prescribe synthroid or an equivilent instead of checking for iodine levels-go figure!!!!!  The thyroid is MOSTLY iodine and a deficiency can be responsible for the most bizarre symptoms!! -from depression to lethargy!!!!!  My thyroid was low and i simply supplemented with iodine and it regained function to the high end of the range!! remember too ,one wants their thyroid levels to be in the higher end of the range and not the lower!! It can make a significant difference !! most docs are satisfied with the lower end of the range and that is a mistake!!! One always wants to shoot for the optimum and not mediocre!!!:-)))
