HomeSchool, PLZ HELP! =/?

Question

Hi, im 14 and in the 10th grade and i really want to be home schooled. I live in Massachusetts and my parents are both Asian so it's going to be hard for me to tell them and make them understand. School isn't for everyone and i get so stressed at times because of it and can't take it anymore.

So my question is, how would i convince them? and do my parents need to teach me or can they just hire someone to?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

From reading just a few of your questions and answers, I would suggest that you stay in school and do your best and learn more responsibility. you mentioned thinking of just staying home from school to get the message across to your parents that you are more interested in acting, and even driving to California after you turn 16 and get your license ... both are bad ideas.

In most states, home schooling, by state statute, is done "in the home and by the parent or guardian"... your parents work and probably don't have the time, and they may not even feel confident in teaching you at home. If they don't want to, or don't feel qualified, then there is no need to try to convince them otherwise. You are still required to learn the same materials at home, as you would in school, in case you are thinking otherwise. Also, you being Asian may be another good reason to stay in school, so that you would also be learning more about the American people and   culture. I know if I were to live in China, I would want to be exposed to the Chinese people and culture as much as I could, rather than try to learn about them sitting at home.

Home schooling works fine for some, but not for others. I honestly do not think you have researched home schooling enough to know what it actually involves.

I'm not expecting to get picked as "best answer" by you, (and don't really care), since I also noticed you don't follow through and pick one (lack of responsibility, maybe?).

In summary: Thoroughly research "home schooling" in your state, to learn more about it before you go any further with the idea. You may decide you would rather buckle down, and stick out the next three years in school.

I was home schooled and now my children are.  It's good if you, as an older student, are self motivated because there are some home school curriculum's that are self explaining - PACEs for example.  But if you feel that your parents would not support the idea, perhaps you should look into private schools.  

If you're having to convince your parents and they are against the idea, it could be significantly harder to accomplish your curriculum.  But if you ask them for a trial run to show that you are serious, perhaps they will see that you a truly dedicated to the idea.  

I loved that I could school at my own pace and actually learn the material - unlike how I was in public school with all the distractions.  I also was involved in a home school group in my area that had co-op classes, 4-H, Field Trips, and Proms.

Regarding the acting profession, have you looked in to theaters in your area?  Start building your resume and get your head shot.

What do you plan on doing when you get into the real, working world, away from mommy and daddy?

Learn to deal with public school, at least through high school. It's  really not that terrible!

if you're asian, chances are you should be interested in

the stanford epgy programme: http://epgy.stanford.edu you have to qualify, but it's a great way to be homeschooled, and might convince your parents.
