  1. Homebase, you can never find anyone to help you in B+Q,they all disappear like rats up a drainpipe.

  2. depends what you need  usually b&q is cheaper   i like wickes

  3. B&Q, most items cheaper.

  4. depending B& Q for paint and decorating ,and tools , Building supplys Wickes , home base prices are high.

  5. From my experience,

Homebase is mainly for decor and furnishings (frilly, cheap looking, yet expensive).

B&Q can still be used for decor supplies but is geared more towards DIY supplies and tools with a greater range, especially the warehouse branches.  I can spend hours in there.

Wickes is a building merchants - cheap and simple supplies for getting a satisfactory job done.

I usually use B&Q as it's a good medium between the three and use Wickes if I ever need cheap bulk supplies.

For any Americans reading this or Brits making stuff for the first time in the US:

Homebase = Bed, Bath and Beyond with a taste of Lowes too.

    B&Q = Home Depot on a diet.

Wickes = no alternative Big-Box store (a large, basic family-run hardware business is closest approximation).
