Homecoming Queen aiming to complete her hat-trick in the Etihad Airways Irish 1,000 Guineas
With two victories already in her purse, Homecoming Queen will be racing at Curragh with the determination to complete her hat-track and win another race.
The bay filly is under the training of A.P. O’Brien, and she will face seven other runners in the Group 1 Etihad Airways Irish 1,000 Guineas on 27th May, 2012.
The daughter of Holy Roman Emperor, out of mare Lagrion, will be mounted by jockey, J.P. O’Brien in this race, as jockey Ryan Moore, will be taking control of After.
The Mrs. John Magnier, M. Tabor and D. Smith owned runner competed at Newmarket on 6th May, 2012, where she entered the Group 1 Qipco 1,000 Guineas Stakes with a 25-1 chance and came out on top, as she defeated the John Gosden
trained, Starscope, by a massive margin of 9 lengths.
The victory at Newmarket earned her immense appreciation from her connections, and her performance at Curragh will be anxiously anticipated.
J.P O’Brien, her mount for the race stated to the press that:
"It was a great performance in Newmarket and if she reproduces something like that she should be very, very hard to beat. There was no fluke about it in Newmarket. She went to the front and did it the hard way."
The trainer also commented on the strategy he used at Newmarket and stated:
"Her first six or seven runs she kept getting beat and we didn't know what was wrong, so we changed tactics a bit and she has clicked into gear. She's a very hardy filly."
The Kevin Prendergast trained, La Collina, will also be competing in this event and her trainer believes that the surface of the track at the Curragh will work in her favour.
At Newmarket, the chestnut filly finished fifth, 11 ½ lengths adrift of the winner on a surface that was labelled good to soft.
Her connections are expecting a smashing performance as she is in brilliant form and will be a lot quicker on this track.
Looks like it will be a battle between these two runners but odds are tilting more in favour of Homecoming Queen.
