Homecoming Queen following in the hoof prints of Ghanaati and Attraction in the Coronation Stakes
Giving the trainer, Aidan O’Brien, his second in row Guineas win was Homecoming Queen while the 2000 Guineas were claimed by Camelot. Her fifth outing of the new season is in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes (British Champions Series) (Fillies) on Friday, 22nd June at the Ascot over a mile.
Registered for the race are twelve three-year-old runners. The winner will get to take home the prize money worth £154,535. Covering the ground for ensuring success are John Gosden, Mick Channon and Aidan O’Brien.
Aidan O’Brien is to be represented by Maybe besides Homecoming Queen but the former’s participation today is doubtful because of a stone bruise.
Mrs. John Magnier, M. Tabor and D. Smith owned three-year-old Irish bay filly took quite a while to clear her maiden and accomplished that after sacrificing seven races. She won the New Tote Sports Lounge 2YO Nursery Handicap on 18th September at Fairyhouse over seven furlongs.
She is one of those racing legends who stay in the shadows initially and once they are sufficiently seasoned and have progressed gradually, they put to display what they are truly capable of.
Claiming a listed race on 9th October, 2011 at Curragh over a mile got her into the graded company. Holy Roman Emperor’s filly was part of the line-up for the Grade 1 Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs over a mile and half a furlong.
Homecoming Queen failed miserably as she was the last one on the track of fourteen while the race was won by the 5/2 favourite, My Miss Aurelia.
Her seasonal debut surfaced in the form of the Group 3 Lodge Park Stud European Breeders Fund Park Express Stakes on 25th March at Curragh over a mile. Aidan O’Brien’s under charge finished ninth on the field set for eleven contestants.
The bay filly caught all by surprise when she won the Group 3 Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial Stakes (Fillies) on 15th April at Leopardstown over seven furlongs. It was a commendable performance as she capitalised on the chance by a slight neck’s margin from the 7/4 favourite runner up, Fire Lily.
Her milestone achievement of the career till yet was on 6th May in the Group 1 Qipco 1000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket over a mile. The 13/8 favourite stable mate, Maybe, ended third as Homecoming Queen won by good nine lengths.
The last attempt of the Lagrion foaled was in the Group 1 Irish 1,000 Guineas on 27th May at Curragh over a mile. The expectations blew off as the three-year-old concluded the race fourth while Mick Channon trained, Samitar, took away the title.
The disappointing outcome however has not wavered the confidence of the connections in the abilities of the well experienced filly who will stand shoulder to shoulder with Ghanaati and Attraction after winning the race today. Homecoming Queen leads with 7/2 odds.
Both of them accomplished the honour of winning the Coronation Stakes after dominating the 1000 Guineas.
The Irish filly will need to look out for Samitar, Laugh Out Loud and Elusive Kate.
