  1. Well, there are organizations such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army who take care of homeless people. Once they are back on their feet, I'm sure they could find themselves a descent job. If you do not have one of these places in your town or state, perhaps, I'm not quite sure if this is possible, but it is an idea research a little on your mayor and see if you can send complaints or set up meetings. Hope this helps.

  2. There are already organizations that help out the ones that want to be helped. If they choose not to accept the help no one can do anything about it.

  3. I would probably give them the job of lighting each other on fire. Whoever loses in the fire battle gets tossed in the burner.

  4. You need to talk to your councilman, representatives and congressman.  They should help you if not get involved in politics.  We need more interested people like you.

We here have a shelter for the homeless.  But unfortunately the city councilman of that particulare city fights to have it put somewhere else.  Its in my neighborhood and I have never had a problem with it.

Some people don't understand until it effects someone in their family.  We need more advocates in politics.

There are shelters throughout our metropolitan area. I sure they have them all throughout the United State. If not there needs to be.

People will argue with you because some are on dope and bring it in the shelters and act accordingly.  Some are prisoners who need a second chance.  But the sad thing is the mothers and the children who have it so very hard are the ones I feel sorry for.  Ofcourse I feel sorry for every homeless person and I know what they are up against.

Good luck to you and you platform.

    Mary

  5. I believe there are already many organizations doing this. I think you will find that the majority of homeless are that way because they choose to be that way. Given the choice between the streets and a shelter, I think most will tell you they would rather be on the streets.

  6. There are many organizations...The majority of those folks remain that way for their own reasons...wether it be mental health...You'd be suprised at the amount that are out there just because they are lazy... :-\

  7. Those homeless people who WANT to work find a way to do it. These are the ones who get out of the streets. Those who dont have the motivation, for whatever reason, will continue to do whatever it is they do...

We cannot help anyone who does not want help.

I was amazed to learn that the man in the wheelchair on the corner makes more money per day panhandling than I do as an RN. Whats wrong with this picture???  He pays NO taxes and gets free meals from the shelter.

  8. Very good question.

First of all, most homeless people are 'temps". people that are just down on their luck.  I was one of those.  Most Americans are about 1 or 2 paychecks from being out on the street.  The hardcore homeless, most suffer from debilitating mental illness, or sever drug problems.  So you would have to treat the drug and alcohol abuse problems first, the only real way to fix the problem would be institutionalized housing, and that would cost a lot.  I know that as far as drugs go, crack addicts have a 90% relapse rate if they are in treatment less than 2 years. It drops down to about 75% for people in 2 year programs, and if they stay clean for 3 years it drops to about 30%. so that is a major issue also.
