  1. You have received a lot of good suggestions on here, already.  I believe that indicates that many people are interested in this topic.  I believe you need to come up with a questionnaire and personally ask the same questions of a lot of homeless people.  Read information on the economy and discover how much it would cost someone to BEGIN to pay for rent, food, clothing and medical care [not to mention drug rehab].  Find out how many homeless have drug and alcohol addiction, how many are mental health handicapped and how many have dual diagnoses of d/a and mental health problems.   What is the recidivism of homelessness.  How many shelters are there compared to the need of homeless needing shelters in whatever city you study.  What are some of the reasons some homeless people choose not to stay in a shelter.  You have a very interesting and growth producing senior project.  Good luck.

  2. well call a t.v.news station or a radio station that talks about the homeless I am sure they can dig up afew items for your project. but what ever you do .  do not go on the street and ask the homeless you just do not know who you'll  be talking to. you could get hurt that to me is the better way and safest way.

           be careful and good luck

  3. You could take this in the direction of homeless vets. I know you could learn allot form them. There is allot out there from organizations and the news!

  4. You need a soarce? Go to the Streets of NYC. you'll get a whole load of sources. You could interview them, take pictures and all that ****.

  5. FIRST OF ALL, NOT EVERYTHING IS THAT IMPORTANT FOR ALL CAPS.

  6. I would suggest that you should actually go out and talk to some homeless people rather than read articles about them.  How can you talk about what you can learn from homeless people if you do not talk to them?  I think you will find that most homeless people are just normal people who lived from paycheck to paycheck and lost their paycheck.  Most of the country is just one paycheck away from being homeless and once you are homeless it is hard to get a decent job, I don't care who you are or what you know.  I think that you will also find that many homeless people are really smart and nice people, they are just down on their luck.  You can learn anything from homeless people, they know everything among them.  Being homeless does not make you any different, it only makes others think that you are different.  Peoples predjustice against the homeless not only hurts the homeless, but it also hurts the rest of us because we lose what they have to offer, and in many cases that is a lot.  Once you meet and talk to some homeless people you will understand what I am talking about.  Don't just talk to the local homeless bum types, there are a lot more homeless than just them, there are whole families that have to live in their cars or under a freeway overpass or just out in the woods somewhere.  They are everywhere, just look and you will find them.

  7. There's a great book about the homeless in NYC who live in underground tunnels. It sounds pretty specific, but there's a lot to be learned about the homeless in general. It's really an amazing book. It's called The Mole People by Jennifer Toth. Absolutely worth checking out. It's one of the few book I've bought AFTER reading it.

  8. Heres an interview!

  9. Think about this:

People say that you shouldn't give people on the streets money to pay for beer, but just buy them food and give it to them...

but in reality, if they want food, there are shelters for that...but they can't get beer there.

Why not give them some change for a corona?

  10. I actually did a homeless simulation in washington DC.  We were dropped off in the middle of the city, in the middle of the night and had to use homeless resources.  I tell you what...apparently we (my "brother" and i) were believable because we found a homeless man that just took us under his wing and helped to show us the ropes of being homeless.  He was such a caring man and did not want to see us that way, he wanted to help get us out of the situation.  i mean, it was one of the most touching and enlightening experiences of my life.  you can learn sooo much from the homeless.

another thing to think about, did you know a fourth of the homeless population suffers from some sort of mental illness? definitely look into this fact. its very interesting and a huge part of the cause of the homeless population.

  11. Call some homeless shelters or food banks or churches, maybe they can spread some light on this subject.

  12. This might be a little to detailed for you but,  why not go out there and be homeless? while your there talk to how and why some others are there. There is A LOT of preconceived notions on homeless people that need to be removed prior to understanding anything.  Ever wonder why the USA has the highest count of homeless? There's many issues within this one  issue. I really hope you find what your looking for and maybe even make a difference in the situation.

    Good luck....
