Question:

Homemade Airgun?

The fastest "commercially" available airgun I can find is around 1300fps (at 3000 psi)

If a metal pellet like a traditional gun was used would this make it better for big game?

Also could a person make a more powerful airgun themselves that may not fit within regulations (ie be illegal)

What would be the limits?

Is 3000 and over dangerous?

  1. Even 1000 PSI is far too dangerous

for an amateur to mess with.

Use professional standard tanks & valves,

    or you're asking for trouble.

Airgun speeds are limited by the nature of

    compressed gasses and valves.

You won't see much above 1200FPS

    no matter what you do.

If you want more power from an airgun,

go to a larger bore/heavier projectile.

  2. You can get better airguns than 1300 fps.....

And if youre hunting you can get larger cal.'s. Such as Sam Yang Big Bore.

  3. Its a logistics issue

SCUBA tanks only hold 3,500 psi

The larger tall tanks (240 CF) are 2250 psi

So 3,000 psi is obtainable and not to hard to make portable.

I would think a strait lead projectile would be better. It will slide down the barrel better than a jacketed bullet
