Anyone ever make their own alcohol still?

Have you ever used the alcohol for automobile fuel?

  1. I am pretty sure E85 is only for ethanol from sugar, I dont think its very economical to make it unless you have a sugar plantation in your backyard.

You can make bio diesel a lot easier on a localised basis with a lot of different crops and wastes from crops and left over fats and meats.

  2. I make my own biodiesel/veggie oil mix because I have a diesels, but I did look into making ethanol.  Instead of trying to explain it, here are a few good links:

I would just sent you to the dogwoodenergy.com site, but it seems to be down today, so there are the stories about it.

    I hope this helps.

p.s. send me a jar when you get done, ok?

  3. Hi,

There are some fairly detailed instructions for making Ethanol on my site here:

Also information on making other veggie based fuels.

  4. If you own a good-sized farming operation and are competent to take on the hazardous procedure, go ahead.  Little stills are a big waste of time.  CENEX here in Montana often blends about 10% with gasoline which is fine for most rigs...if you want to use more you'd best go to a flex-fuel vehicle.

  5. I think it would be possible, there are many ethanol plants around where I live and they make it out of corn.  If you wanted to try it in your backyard, it would be illegal.
