Homemade Exhaust?

Hey I have an SRT4 and Im gonna be making a side exit exhaust from the downpipe back. Im not sure if I should keep the cats on there. Im in Florida so they arent strict on emissions and they dont inspect them so I really wanna take them off. My question is:

If I run no catalytic converters will I loose any horsepower?

You may gain a small amount of hp if you run without cat converters, they tend to strangle the engine, almost making the car asthmatic, all enviormentally friendly rubbish. Sometimes a car that was made with a cat has to always have one on the car, though I don't know about Florida's emissions laws.
