  1. the best one has to be chess!

    Chess

objective: defeat the enemy king before yours is taken.

winning condition: put the enemy king into a position where it is threatened but can't move without still being threatened.

losing condition: same as winning condition, but you are the owner of the king.

    game board: 64 squares- 8x8

    pieces:

pawn: moves only one space forward. attacks only diagonally forward. if a pawn reaches the other side of the board, itis replaced with a selected piece which was already taken. 8 pawns per player.

rook: moves up to 8 squares horizontally or vertically both forwards and backwards. if an enemy-owned piece is at or before the rook's destination, the rook stops at that place and the enemy piece is removed from the board. cannot go through self-owned pieces.

knight: moves in one direction 2 spaces and turns left or right one square(in the knight's eyes). skips over pieces, no matter the owner. takes an enemy piece if one is on the ending square, but cannot land on a self-owned unit.

bishop: exact same as a rook, only instead of horizontal and vertical, a bishop may only move diagonally.

queen: the beast of the game. moves as if it was both a rook and a bishop at the same time, allowing it to move horizontally, vertically, and diagonal. cannot skip over units.

king: your powerhouse. the king may move in any direction, but only one square. if the king dies, the owner loses automatically.

2nd queen: unlockable under one circumstance, and is otherwise ignored. 2nd queens are the same as a normal queen, but may only come into play if a pawn reaches the other side of the board before the owner loses any pieces, so that the 2nd queen is the only available option. no other way to get it. there are no third queens.

    board beginning placement:

    R K B Q K B K R

    P P P P P P P P

    P P P P P P P P

    R K B Q K B K R

    (i hope i don't need to add a legend)

    other rules:

Check!: if a king is threatened, meaning it can be taken next turn if it doesn't move, the player threatening the king must say "check" to tell the other player this. the king must be moved out of check. the king may not be taken in a 'check' situation.

Checkmate!: if the king is in check, and there is no way to move it out of check without still being threatened, the player who would normally be saying "check" instead says "checkmate" and then is the winner of the game.

Stalemate: if a player cannot make any moves of logical sense (for example, is not in check but if the player moves, he/she will be in check.)(another example, if no pieces remain but 2 kings, because a king can't kill a king) then the game is ended, but in a stalemate. stalemates are ties, because someone who could have won decided to make dumb decisions.

other rules apply, but agree to them before the game. (like umphasaunt or whatever its called)
