Question:

Homemade Valentine cards for preschool class?

DS will be exchanging Valentine cards in his preschool class. I would love for him to make his own cards and maybe stick a small candy treat on (or not, it doesn't matter).

Any ideas? Most of the things I find on the internet are just printables but I want a real craft for him to do. BTW, he is almost 5 and good with glue and scissors and stickers, etc.

Thanks so much for your ideas.

  1. you could make old fashioned valentines with a doiley back and a construction paper heart on top of that - then he could sign his name and put stickers on.

Or fold a piece of paper in half and draw half a heart on and he can cut out his own hearts and sign his own name - then he could decorate with collage materials or stickers.

Sounds like a  wonderful idea - good luck and have fun!

  2. As a teacher, I discourage the candy.  As a grandmother, I would also discourage the candy.  My daughter is very strict with  the diet of her son, and she wouldn't want him to have candy.

The cutest cards are the ones where the child just cuts and pastes and applies the stickers using his own imagination.  You could show him how to fold the paper and cut it to make heart shapes.  He could then just color and glue until he's satisfied.  Also, if you give him scraps of tissue paper and wrapping ribbon, he could stick those on.

  3. I'm assuming his class is pretty small-- most preschool classes are-- so here's what I think:

He could kind of twist another holiday's snack, like caramel apples or those ghost-sucker-things, with the tissues? He could also cover conversation heart boxes with colered paper and decorate.

  4. I am a preschool teacher and have been making my own cards for years.  You can use construction paper, cut them into hearts and allow your children to decorate them and taping a hershey kiss to each. Also, you can use felt or a think foam material (at your local Michael's or crafts store sells them).  Anyhow, I tend to have a blast. You can glue or staple the edges and add a little note in the middle a long with a lollipop or hershey kiss... enjoy!

(I like the one with the hands: Trace the little hands onto the construction paper, and then cut them out. Simply decorate the cards by drawing and gluing on fun stuff. like a heart)

(here you could learn how to make a heart using the child's hand and painting along the outside)

  6. I always use two sites for craft ideas for my daughters (ages 4 and 6 years) and my home daycare preschool.  They are both great!

Personally, I use the dltk-kids more though.

    Good luck!
